Fun and frolics mixed with history makes for great St Patrick’s festival

- By MARY FOGARTY

THERE was plenty to enjoy outside of the parade itself during this year’s St Patrick’s Festival in Bray.

Unfortunately everything had to be called off on Sunday because of snow, but otherwise the public enjoyed guided walks, street theatre, a funfair and more during the nine-day event.

A guided history walk with Bray Cualann Historical Society due to take place on Sunday went ahead on Monday instead.

It started at the town hall, and participants learned about Bray’s links with shamrock, serpents and patriotic visitors, as well as significant events which took place in Bray during St Patrick’s weeks of yore.

Birds Euroshow were on-site on the seafront over the two weekends before and during St Patrick’s Day.

Those who enjoy a sing-song made their way to the Harbour Bar on Friday night, for Dubliners tribute act The Liberties.

Bray Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann performed traditional Irish music in The Well on St Patrick’s evening, and

It was Monsieur Gusto who had the final word, with his spectacular outdoor circus performances on Monday afternoon, including handstands, magic, juggling and escapology.
