ARTISTS’ JOY SHOWS AT EXHIBITION
MARTHA AND MAURA’S BEAUTIFUL WORKS ARE PRAISED AT ARKLOW LIBRARY EXHIBITION
THE WORKS OF two local artists were feted last Thursday night during the opening of their art exhibition.
Artists Martha Duane and Maura Hann, both of Rockview Artists, will be exhibiting their work at Arklow Library until the end of the month.
Martha said she was delighted to get the opportunity to showcase her work.
‘I dabbled in arts many years ago but gave it up to rear my family. It is only in the last few years that I rediscovered my love of painting.
‘It has given me the opportunity to make great friends and to also put on canvas, not only aspects of my local area that I have admired over the years, but also to explore further afield other parts of rural Ireland.’
Maura, who is a native of Co. Galway, has been living in Arklow for the past 50 years. She said that painting brings her great joy regardless of the subject.
‘Like most people I did a little bit of painting in secondary school. I loved it and always meant to take it up but life always seemed to get in the way. However four years ago I enrolled in a class run by Wicklow VEC and have never looked back. Sadly this class discontinued during the recent recession. Together with my friend Martha Duane we founded Rockview Artists and we dabble away happily sometimes producing ‘ happy accidents’ but also casualties just fit for the bin. But most important of all we are having great fun. There is a lovely view of Arklow Rock from the sunroom which explains the name.’
