Scouts serve hearty breakfast at the den

- By MARY FOGARTY

GREYSTONES scouts served up almost 160 breakfasts last Saturday morning, for the traditional ‘Bricfeasta Mór’ at the den before the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

The boys and girls and their leaders worked hard from 7.30 in the morning, and indeed the previous evening until late, preparing for the meal.

With around 130 paying guests and the rest volunteers to be fed, the event raised €1,000 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, with barely a sausage left over in waste.

They chose the charity as a family member of one of the scouts had died during the year from motor neurone disease.

This was the 21st year of the breakfast, which is a great community tradition in Greystones. Spokesman Anthony Finnegan said that Flemming’s butchers in Greystones sponsored the meat, Greystones Golf Club a fourball for a raffle prize, and many others donated time, prizes and funds.

Leaders did the cooking with scouts and ventures serving, and cubs selling tickets for the draw. ‘It’s always worth the hard work,’ said Anthony. ‘The buzz everyone gets out of it is great.’
