Shield competition next

NEXT up on the agenda of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol girls football activities is the Girls’ Wicklow Times Shield (fifth and sixth class girls football). There is no age limit on the children who are participating. Games will be nine--aside and full rules apply.

The event will take place on Wednesday, March 21 from 11.45am to 1.30pm at Bray Emmets GAA Club.

Please do this as soon as possible as it is a tight turnaround to Wednesday. Please ensure that you have confirmed your attendance with David before attending the blitz. Fixtures will be created before the blitz and it is difficult to add in schools if they just turn up on the day. David will do his best to grade schools according to their ability as Day 1 had to be cancelled due to weather. Hopefully the sun shines! INTO Skills Challenge

The annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Wicklow Skills competition will take place in regional venues on the week beginning April 9.

Please take particular notice of the age restriction regarding this event. Note that the age limit has changed and is now the same for all schools regardless of enrolment numbers. Participants must be born on or after January 1, 2006.

If a child has represented Wicklow in Croke Park previously in any code they cannot take part at any level of the skills test again e.g. regional skills day, etc.

Each school is permitted to send two representatives per code to compete in:

Gaelic Football (boys), Gaelic Football (girls), Hurling, Camogie.

Each pupil will only be permitted to compete in one code. The top four pupils in each code from each area will be invited to compete in the County Skill Tests scheduled for the week beginning April 16 in Wicklow GAA Centre of Excellence, Ballinakill.

The top performing pupils in the County Skills tests will have the opportunity to represent their school and county during the half time of selected All-Ireland Series games during the summer.

The North East Skill Tests are scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, at 11.45am in Bray Emmets.

The West Wicklow Skills Tests are scheduled for Thursday, April 12, at 11am in Baltinglass GAA Grounds.

We are awaiting confirmation of the South Skill Test date and venue and will forward on the information as soon as possible. Please ensure the pupils taking part are present at the correct time.
