COL CHILL MHANTAIN 2-8 COLÁISTE BHRÍDE 3-5

THE weather won again last week with blitzes due on Wednesday and Thursday postponed and a number of other games also called off.

ONE game was played but even that failed to produce a winner.

This boy’s junior football quarter final was played on the CCM pitch on Thursday.

Coláiste Bhríde played with the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and scored the first point.

However Chill Mhantáin began to dominate midfield possession and went on to lead at half-time by 1-5 to 0-3, the goal coming from Eoin Doyle.

Coláiste Bhríde started the second half well but CCM with the wind behind them were leading by 2-6 to 1-4 with only 15 minutes remaining.

However, they lost the influential Mark Whelan to an injury and then a player to a second yellow card.

The Carnew school never gave up and scored a goal to reduce the margin to three points, 2-8 to 2-5, with only a few minutes left.

The home team showed a lack of discipline and their numbers were reduced further by another second yellow card and in the last minute Carnew pressure resulted in the equalising goal.

It was not possible to play extra time on the day so the game will be replayed in Carnew.

Eoin Doyle, who scored 1-5, starred for Coláiste Chill Mhantáin and was well supported by Paul Marah, Cillian Clarke and Luke Kenny in defence with Calum Kelly, Ross Kelly, Noah Sheridan and Dylan Kavanagh also prominent for the Wicklow town school.

Coláiste Bhríde had good players in Adam Hatton (until injured), Eoin Young, Joe Conroy, Kevin Rawson and James McGing.
