Cliff Walk re-opens following works to construct new bridge

-

The cliff walk was fully reopened to the public by yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Works to correct a landslide caused by erosion of the cliff face were expected to take until Tuesday. The route remained accessible from both the Bray and Greystones ends as far as the work site, which was just over half way from Bray to Greystones.

The cliff was closed the previous Thursday after a portion of the walk fell to the beach below, Wicklow County Council said.

High levels of erosion over the winter months at the site of the timber bridge mean that the works included the removal of the bridge. A longer, stronger structure was installed at this location.

Works got under way at the site last Friday. The council said that the works were required for public safety. Greystones District Engineer said that council staff had carried out ‘excellent and expeditious work.’
