Ardmore Rovers raise €3,500 for LauraLynn

- By MARY FOGARTY

ARDMORE Rovers presented a cheque for over €3,500 to LauraLynn recently in memory of the late Lucy Broxson McHugh.

Lucy passed away from cancer at the age of four last October. She was looked after by the children’s hospice in her final days.

Twelve Ardmore team managers and coaches took part in the New Year’s Day swim to raise the money in her memory.

Donations were raised online through idonate.ie and they asked for sponsorship through their social media accounts.

While Lucy was not linked directly to the club, her parents and wider family would be known by a lot of the members and Lucy’s mum Fiona’s cousin Dan Kiely is on the club committee.

The group thought that their original target of €1,000 was very ambitious.

‘ To have raised €3,502 was absolutely fantastic,’ said Dan.

‘We were blown away by people’s generosity – especially so soon after Christmas.

‘We also raised €250 for the Bray Sea Swim Charities and we’d like to thank Bray Lions Club for allowing us to raise funds for LauraLynn alongside their chosen charities for the swim,’ he said.

The team at LauraLynn were absolutely over the moon with the amount raised.

They have to work hard to raise funds every year so they are very happy to get donations that they have not had to push for

he monies raised will be used to provide care to children with life limiting and life
