Resident’s disappointment as litterers show little respect

-

A RESIDENT of Kilmolin in Enniskerry collected four bags of litter along a 300 metre stretch of road last week.

The local man, who said that he would prefer not to be named, keeps the grass verges tidied up on a monthly basis.

He usually collects rubbish while he works, and said that this was the worst haul of litter he has seen.

He would generally collect one bag full or so per month.

There are around 50 houses in the area. The local man said that he believes much of the rubbish dropped there comes from cars passing through. The contents of the bags includes coffee cups and food packaging.

‘It is very disappointing,’ he said. ‘ Tidy Towns do great work down in the village and it’s a shame that people would have so little respect.’ He found a receipt with one item of rubbish collected. ‘I reported it and I’m waiting to hear back from the EPA,’ he said.

Litter offences can be reported in confidence to Wicklow County Council a number of ways. The litter line is 1890 54 8837; the PURE line is 1850 365 121 and the council environment office can be reached on 0404 20296 or envcomplaints@wicklowcoco.ie.
