Wicklow’s Youth Cup journey ends in Cork

-

CORK YOUTH LEAGUE 9, WICKLOW 0: Wicklow’s journey in the FAI New Balance Youth Inter-League Cup came to a disappointing end when they went down 9-0 to a slick Cork Youth League outfit in their quarter-final at Douglas Hall’s all-weather pitch on Saturday.

Wicklow were still well in the tie at the break as they trailed by a single goal, but Cork took com- plete control in the second-half after the visitors were reduced to ten men.

The hosts didn’t break the deadlock until the 43rd minute, when Ethan Varian hit the back of the net, but it was one-way traffic in the second period, with Liam Ross doubling their advantage not long after the interval.

Varian then grabbed his second with 55 minutes on the clock, with Ross adding two more to his tally by the 70th minute to complete his hat-trick.

Two minutes later Jack Water got in on the act and Cork rubbed further salt into the Wick- low wounds with three more goals in the final ten minutes, with Dean McCarthy, Darragh Milner and Robin Ward completing their handsome tally as they marched on to the semi-final in style.
