Bowietobeasked for jobs in Ki lt egan
April 1992
THE confirmation that rock star David Bowie has bought a castle hideaway in the west Wicklow village of Kiltegan has brought a plea for more jobs for the residents of the small hamlet.
Cllr Tommy Cullen from nearby Baltinglass wants to meet with the multi-millionaire superstar and has called on him to help ease the levels of unemployment in the area by employing a full quota of staff to run Humewood Castle, which is the latest addition to the string of residencies owned by Mr. Bowie.
‘As I am a local representative for the area I am seeking a meeting with Mr. Bowie or his representatives regarding employment and the issues facing the locality,’ says Cllr Cullen.
‘I am going to point to him that there has been a long-standing and good relationship between the people of the village and the castle and I want to ensure that this good community spirit is maintained.’
He added that he was very anxious to ensure that employment at the castle would be safe-guarded and increased if possible to ensure maximum benefit to the village.
