Kelly classics in aid of CDKL5

-

THE audience at ‘ The Legend of Luke Kelly’ joined their voices in song along with ‘Scorn Not His Simplicity’ in honour of all the children with CDKL5.

The Phil Coulter song, made famous by the late Luke Kelly, was written about Coulter’s own son who had Down’s Syndrome.

The tribute band played at the Parkview in Newtownmountkennedy recently as a fundraiser for research into the condition CDKL5.

The event was organised by Bray man Alan Connolly, whose daughter Alex has the condition.

The disorder is most common in girls, with just six registered cases in IReland. Most children with the syndrome will suffer from severe epilepsy, scoliosis, visual impairment, breathing difficulties, non-verbal, feeding difficulties, limited mobility and being confined to a wheelchair.

‘A big thank you to everybody for their support,’ said Alan. ‘ To say we are delighted is an understatement. You don’t know what it means.’

Sufferers of CDKL5 require 24-hour care. ‘It won’t directly help my daughter Alex as she is now 21 but we are hopeful it will help younger children and stop families going through what we did,’ said Alan.

‘ The Legend of Luke Kelly’ is singer-songwriter Chris Kavanagh along with a range of other fantastic musicians.
