Lakeside crowned debating champions
LAKESIDE have won the Under-16 Wicklow Community Games debating final after coming up against BBKR.
The final was held at Brittas Bay National School.
Representing Lakeside were Grace Swan, Gracie Shott, Holly Teague and Orlaith Ni Ghallchoehair. Their manager on the night was Afica Henry.
The BBKR team consisted of Alex Mills, Ellie Mai Brennan, Ciara O’Neill and Sophie Reynolds. Colm Fitzpatrick was their manager.
Lakeside were debating in favour of social media use for under-14s, arguing that it was a good way to meet people and that parents should remain vigilant to ensure their children aren’t being left open to anything inappropriate.
BBKR argued that those under-14 were too young to be allowed unsupervised access to social media.
The difficult decision of choosing a winner fell to judges Paul Tancrid and Sandra Stanley who, after much deliberation, announced Lakeside as the victors.
