Petmania helps Ash promote pet adoption

-

A WEST Wicklow animal rescue charity has teamed up with Petmania for a new campaign to encourage people to consider animal adoption.

Ash Animal Rescue in Rathdangan was revealed as a partner in the nationwide programme which is asking potential pet owners to ‘Paws for Thought’.

At any one time in Ireland, there are thousands of cats and dogs waiting to be rehomed. Due to the increasingly high numbers of animals being abandoned, rescue centres are struggling to cope with increased running costs and sufficient numbers of volunteers.

Ash Animal Rescue, which provides rehoming and rescue services to homeless animals across Leinster, primarily Carlow, is one of the first centres to be announced as an official partner in the scheme. In 2017, the volunteer group found forever homes for 150 kittens, 258 puppies, guinea pigs, rabbits and even two donkeys.

‘Petmania and Ash Animal Rescue go a back a long way,’ said Remi Le Mahieu of Ash Animal Rescue.

‘We are always grateful for their support with discounts, donations and fundraising help. Ash Animal Rescue take in unwanted, injured, homeless animals who we try to re-home. We ensure all medical issues have been dealt with and legal requirements are met such as micro chipping and the neutering of animals over the age of six months.

‘Our running costs are rising year on year, which is why our relationship with Petmania is so important,’ said Remi.

Having always worked closely with animal rescue centres across Ireland, the project will see Petmania continue to donate food supplies to each of their adoption centre partners. The Irish owned company has developed aftercare programmes for new pet-parents who have chosen to give a forever home to an abandoned or unwanted animal and become part of the Petmania adoptive family network.

For every 15kg of Burns Animal Food that is purchased throughout Petmania stores, three bowls of dog food will be donated to the adop- tion centres. The monthly donations of food will be distributed to the adoption partner centres from Petmania’s central warehouse in Kilkenny. New adoptive pet-parents will also be able to access exclusive discounts and free food from Burns, when they adopt a dog or cat from one of Petmania’s Adoption Partners.
