Old court residents want guarantee
April 1985
Residents of a poor quality council housing estate in Bray this week demanded a guarantee that they will be transferred to new which authority houses to be allocated in the near future.
The assurance was sought by the Oldcourt Tenants’ Association which sent a deputation to a meeting of Bray Urban Council.
The deputation, which represented tenants who have been living in Oldcourt since it was built 12 year ago, said they wished to ensure the council would not renege on its agreement in 1981 that tenants would receive ‘Special Category Status’ on the authority’s housing transfer list. In particular, they wanted an assurance that the council would stick to the part of the agreement which stated main priority on the list would be decided by length of residence in Oldcourt.
The deputation also called for clarification from the council on a number of points regarding the new houses which it is building at nearby Killruddery.
They said there is currently no information on how many houses are to be allocated to tenants of Oldcourt but they suggested the highest possible should be made to those in the special status.
