Heavy rain did not deter the children from Ashford/Glenealy as they gave it their all at the County Cross Country finals in Avondale as Alia, Noah, Finn Harris and Ellen Savage won Gold. Lily Sheehy and Owen Savage both winning Silver. Mary McElhinney, Molly Sheehy, Ollie Behan, Sarah Gillispie, Una McElhinner and Simon Lynch bronze medals and second team place overall.

A big thank you to Team Manager Andrea Dunne and Jennie Teevan for all their hard work a special thank you to Peter and Aideen Savage Ashford Athletic Club bibs.

At the County Swimming on Sunday the Harris brothers Noah under-12 Breaststro­ke and Finn under-14 Freestyle won gold medals.

Well done to the Chess Team: Patrick Butler, Luke Clements Felix Rothchild, Felix Beauman, Thieaud Empey, William and Harry Smith and thank you to manager Justine Beauman.

Thanks to all at the three schools for their wonderful support parents who helped in any way. To all the children who took part you all did your area proud.

On Sunday, April 8, Ashford/ Glenealy will have the honour of hosting the County Talent Final for the second year in a row. Check in at 12.30 with 1 p.m. start in Glenealy Hall for an afternoon of wonderful entertainm­ent. Good luck to all the children from the area who will be taking part. Well done to the three quiz teams who put their knowledge to the test at the County Final last Saturday.

CARD DRIVE

45 card drive will be on in Glenealy village hall this Thursday, April 5, and whist partner card drive will be the following Thursday, April 12, at 8.30 p.m. New pLayers always welcome.

FOROIGE YOUTH CLUB

Glenealy Foróige youth club is back in Glenealy Village hall for youths aged 12 years to 18 years. It will be on every Friday night at 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Anyone interested can come along any Friday night for more informatio­n contact 0404 44040.

GLENEALY IT CENTRE

Enrolement is now taking place for the following courses to commence in April: Computeris­ed payroll course, book keeping/Accounts and Microsoft Office specialist (MOS) Word and Excel advanced. COMMUNITY CENTRE

The centre is available for bookings (e.g. classes, meetings, birthday parties). Bookings can be made via email kilcoolecc@ gmail.com or by phone 01 2872017. The office is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed for lunch between 12.30 p.m and 1.15 p.m.

INDOOR BOWLS

Bowls takes place every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in St Patrick’s/Forrester’s Hall. New members are welcome.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

All are welcome to come along to the parent and toddler group at the community centre from 10.30 p.m. to midday every Wednesday. €2 per child.

The teams that took part were our under-eights, 10’s, 11’s and 14’s and every player on those teams played to their best of their ability and enjoyed what was a well run competitio­n by Tony Doran and his hard working group of helpers. Also in action from the club were Newtown Juniors FC players Hannah Martin, who captained the WDSL under-12 girls Academy team and Jack Coughlan, who was playing with the under-12 county squad. Well done, everyone.

Only one player from the club celebrates a birthday in the coming week and he is Jamie Fitzgerald from the under-12s. Happy birthday Jamie from everyone in Newtown Juniors FC All our teams are back in training now for the past couple of weeks. There are also a couple of slots on all our teams at the moment so if there are any girl’s or boys who would like to join the club please contact our secretary Hughie at 087 6987653 and he will provide you with all the informatio­n you will need.

Also in a new venture by the WDSL they have started a Girls Academy for all girl’s playing in the league that will also cater for girls who may not be a member of a club or a team. Training takes place for all age groups under-10, under-12 and under-14 at from 4.30 p.m. till 6 p.m. every Sunday evening. We had 29 Players still standing going into week seven but that number dropped by two to 27 Players thanks to the Watford vs Bournemout­h game ending in a 2-all draw which included the winners of our last competitio­n JP and Sorcha. The WDSL Fundraiser ‘ The Kube’ will take place in the Parkview Hotel on Saturday, April 7. We have two participan­ts namely John Dunleavy and Stephen Nolan, who will both be raising funds for our club through this event. If you can sponsor either John or Stephen for any amount no matter how small please contact any committee member for further informatio­n. Tickets to the event are €20 each but we have a number of tickets for sale at €10 per head which are on sale at a first come first served basis. Please support as all money raised will go back towards the youth of the area.

The club would like to extend their deepest condolence­s to the family and friends of Charlie Gray from Bray, who sadly passed away last week. Charlie apart from been a gentleman was a referee for years in the Wicklow and District Schoolboys/Girls League. May he rest in peace.
