Bray’s Léargas to take part in the Siansa Gael Linn final

-

The Bray-based group ‘Léargas’ will be among the cream of young Irish traditional musical and singing talent taking to the National Concert Hall stage for the Siansa Gael Linn 2018 final.

Siansa Gael Linn showcases Irish music and Irish song by young musicians and is organised annually by Gael Linn with support from Irish Music Magazine and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. The final takes place at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, and will be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

Wicklow musicians Conchúir Ó Nualláin, David Nesbitt, Caoilte Mac Muiris, Lauryn Breathnach, Dónal Mac Duinnsléibhe, Breandán Ó Conaill and Naoise Kettle, will perform in the final alongside seven other groups from across the country. Each group will play their own 10 to 12 minute selection of traditional music, arranged in a new and innovative way, and they must include an Irish song in their repertoire.

Out of over 60 groups, the eight finalists qualified through two preliminary rounds since December. Providing help and encouragement to these groups were flute-player and singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Declan Masterson, piper and multi-instrumentalist. Joining them at the adjudicator’s table for the final will be respected fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada.

Tickets are available from the National Concert Hall at nch.ie or 01 4170000.
