CARNEW will take centre stage this Friday, April 13, when the South Wicklow Drama Festival Committee host the 2018 All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals.

This is a momentus occasion for the small south Wicklow town, as it is the first time the finals will be held in County Wicklow in the 66-year history of the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland.

The venue for the event will be St Brigid’s Hall, which will hold over 300 people on each night of the nine-night festival which will showcase the best plays from all around Ireland.

The festival will run from Friday, April 13, to Saturday, April 21, with a great show hitting the stage each night.

The Lislea Dramatic Players kick things off on Friday with ‘The Kings of the Kilburn High Road’ by Jimmy Murphy. This is followed on Saturday night by the Sliabh Aughty Drama Group’s production of ‘Moonglow’ by Kim Carney. A dedicated group of volunteers from the South Wicklow Drama Festival Committee have worked tirelessly to raise funds from ticket sales to host the finals. They also received financial support from both local businesses and from Baltinglass Municipal District following the Committee’s impressive presentation to the Members of Baltinglass MD last year.
