Delgany Daffodil Show at the Old Schoolhouse
The Delgany & District Horticultural Society Daffodil Show took place last Saturday in the Old Schoolhouse.
There was a wonderful display of daffodils of every colour and size. The weather was a tad precarious on the day for the first show of the year and the society was also concerned whether there would be daffodils available for exhibit with such a horrible cold and wet spring.
However, they need not have worried with over 230 exhibits in all classes.
Of the 46 Daffodil classes, trophies were awarded to Trevor Stevenson (Brides Glen) Ian Erskine (Sandyford) James Kilkenny (Bray) Margaret Webb (Bray) and Mark Norse (Newcastle)
In the ‘Other Flowers’ classes, the Paul Cruise Salver was awarded to Margaret Nevin (Bray) for a beautiful Camellia, Sinead Gulliver was awarded the C.W. Beare Cup for a wonderful Hellebore) and the TSB Cup for awarded to Trevor Stevenson (Brides Glen) for most points in ‘Other Flowers’
This show was enhanced by floral artists from Bray and Greystones who provided the show with a wonderful series of arrangements under the titles of ‘Inspired by Nature’ and ‘Symphony of Textures’.
The Myra Stokes Salver for best exhibit was awarded to Una Whelan (Bray) and the Hazel Manning Cup was awarded to Aishling Mullan (Templeogue). There were also 3 entries in the Junior Class and the overall award was won by Lewis McNeill (Bray).
