FAMILY IMPRESSES AT ARKLOW VISUAL

BALLYROGAN EXPRESSION AT ARKLOW VISUAL ARTS GALLERY FEATURES WORK FROM ANDREW, ATTRACTA AND SARAH EVA MANSON

AN EXHIBITION on display at the moment is truly a family affair as it features the work of a local couple and their daughter.

‘Ballyrogan Expression’ by Andrew and Attracta Manson and their daughter Sarah Eva Manson was launched at Arklow Visual Arts Gallery on Monday last and the work will be on show until Friday, April 20.

Ballyrogan House is a 500-year-old farm house in Redcross. Bought by Andrew Manson, the house evolved organically into an artist based collective from 1981, when a group of artists came together to produce works of art and to turn Ballyrogan House into a habitable space.

This is the first show the Mansons have held together in a number of years.

‘We have decided to get back on the horse and have built up the confidence to get our work back out there again,’ said Sarah, who recently had her first baby.

While nervous about showing her own work after so long, Sarah said she has been impressed by her parents’ creations.

‘Mum is nervous too but she has no need to be – her work is incredible, so full of colour and energy. Dad is so excited he’s just finished two paintings this week that he’s been working on every day for months – and they are amazing. He will also be showing some really cool photography from inside Mickey Finns back in the 1980s and also outside in Redcross,’ she said.

The exhibition runs at the Arklow Visual Arts Gallery up until April 20. Admission is free and all are welcome.
