’Stones and Wicklow preparing for huge weekend

-

IT’S a huge weekend for club rugby in Wicklow with Greystones looking to secure their AIL Division 2A status with a win at home to City of Armagh on Saturday while Wicklow RFC’s first team face Tullow in the Bank Of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup semi-final on Sunday with their seconds colleagues meeting Gorey in Arklow in the last four of the Seconds Cup the previous afternoon.

For Greystones, everything now comes down to the final match this Saturday. City of Armagh travel to Dr Hickey Park with a mathematical chance of making the promotion playoffs seeking to finish on a high after letting a big lead go last week and suffering an injury time defeat to Galwegians. Greystones will be gunning for a win to guarantee their place in Division 2A next season without worrying about other results and cheered on by a big home support this promises to be a pulsating encounter.

Wicklow’s first team take on old foes Tullow in the Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup semi-final on Sunday in Cill Dara RFC.

The Carlow men are the reigning champions and appear to be timing their run perfectly in an effort to retain the coveted trophy.

They beat a tough Gorey side in Gorey to secure their place in the semi finals and will be relishing the thoughts of playing Wicklow.

Neither side will fear the other but they will respect each other completely and both know that they will be in for a ferocious battle.

This game will be an absolute cracker. Tullow will bring a huge crowd so it is important that as many Wicklow supporters make the effort to get behind the team.

Leinster Champions and cup favourites Ashbourne were drawn to face Enniscorthy in the other semi final directly after the Wicklow game in a mouth watering double header in Cill Dara RFC.

It’s a 3pm kick off in Arklow RFC for the Wicklow seconds against neighbours Gorey on Saturday.
