Wicklow ready for Tullow challenge in semi-final

-

WICKLOW’S first team take on old foes Tullow in the Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup semi-final on Sunday in Cill Dara RFC.

The Carlow men are the reigning champions and appear to be timing their run perfectly in an effort to retain the coveted trophy. They beat a tough Gorey side in Gorey to secure their place in the semi-finals and will be relishing the thoughts of playing Wicklow.

Neither side will fear the other but they will respect each other completely and both know that they will be in for a ferocious battle in Cill Dara RFC on Sunday, April 15. This game will be an absolute cracker.

Tullow will bring a huge crowd so it is important that as many Wicklow supporters make the effort to get behind the team.

Unfortunately, the clubs women’s team are due to play their second round cup match on the same day in Railway Union at 1pm.

Leinster champions and cup favourites Ashbourne were drawn to face Enniscorthy in the other semi-final, which should be another fantastic game.

This match is being played directly after the Wicklow game in a mouth watering double header in Cill Dara RFC on Sunday.

Wicklows under-18.5s lost out in a thrilling Leinster Premier League final against an excellent Skerries side on Sunday in Ashbourne RFC.

A stuttering start saw Wicklow concede 14 unanswered points in the first ten minutes.

Wicklow battled back brilliantly to level it at 14 -14.

Facing into a strong wind in the second half they conceded another try to make it 21-14.

Another Wicklow try made it 21-19. Two late Skerries penalties made the final score 27-19.

A heartbreaking defeat for a brilliant Wicklow side who didnt get the bounce of the ball on the day but who will no doubt grow and learn from their adventure.
