Voters urged to check the register

-

ANYONE wishing to vote on the upcoming referendum is being urged to check that they are registered to vote.

Wicklow County Council is advising everyone to visit www.checktheregister.ie well in advance of the referendum on Friday, May 25.

The public should note that even if they registered to vote once, it does not mean they will remain on the register, which is why they are being urged to check.

To be entitled to vote, a person must be a citizen of Ireland, have reached the age of 18 on or over polling day and be ordinarily resident at the address at which they want to register.

Anyone on the register who has moved recently may qualify to be added to the supplement at their new address.

The closing date for receipt of applications for the supplement is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.

The RFA2 supplement application forms can be obtained from council offices, libraries, garda stations or from www. checktheregister.ie

Anyone eligible to vote by post or who is unable to vote in person (due to a physical illness or disability and resident in a hospital, nursing home or similar institution) and who is not currently on the postal or special voters list, can apply for inclusion in the supplement to the postal or special voters list.

Closing date for receipt of applications for the postal or special voters list must be received by Saturday, April 28.

Application forms are available by contacting the Franchise Department on franchise@ wicklowcoco.ie.
