Prefabs granted for Greystones CNS

-

GREYSTONES Community National School has been granted permission for more prefabs, as the school awaits its permanent home.

Currently housed at Greystones Rugby Club, Greystones CNS has planning permission for a Charlesland site.

Deputy Stephen Donnelly said that he is ‘deeply concerned at the length of time it has taken to complete the conveyancing stage’.

The temporary school has received planning permission for two additional portacabins. The tendering process for the Charlesland build is almost complete.

Cllr Jennifer Whitmore, who is chair of the board of CNS, said that the decision means that the school can offer the second stream of junior infants for September 2018.

‘ This will be a huge relief to those parents on the CNS waiting list who have been unable to secure a place for their child to date,’ said Cllr Whitmore. She said that the permanent build is scheduled for 2019.

‘ The Department currently finalising the tender process and should be in a position to select the preferred contractor over the coming months,’ she said.

Minister for Health Simon Harris said that the permission for the two new prefabs is fantastic news for Greystones.

‘It will allow the school to take additional students for the coming year,’ he said. ‘School places are in very high demand in Greystones so it is vital that we are growing and developing our schools.’
