Irish Rail response ‘not good enough’

-

IRISH Rails’ response to Dart passengers left stranded between Bray and Greystones recently was described as ‘nowhere near good enough’ in the Wicklow County Council chamber.

On Thursday, April 12, commuters were left stranded for over three hours at Bray Head after overhead wires got caught in the Dart’s pantograph and were torn down.

Speaking at last week’s monthly meeting of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Grainne McLoughlin called on the council’s Chief Executive Frank Curran to hold talks with Irish Rail.

‘ The 9.35 p.m. train was stuck in the middle of the tunnel for over three hours, with all its passengers still on board. What would have happened if a fire broke out or if someone was pregnant or someone was taken seriously ill? It was 12.40 a.m. before another train came in. Irish Rail’s response was nowhere near good enough.’

Mr Curran agreed to seek a meeting with Irish Rail so the safety concerns could be addressed.
