GREYSTONES WEST OFFALY 10 22

AFTER successful quarter and semi finals against Wexford and North Meath, the Greystones under-16 girls final was set in Cill Dara RFC against West Offaly, on Saturday last.

The girls were well presented in the tour tops, gifted to them by Frank Keane Volkswagen.

Playing against the wind in the first half the girls held off a ferocious West Offaly side.

Both teams only managed to score a try each.

The Greystones try was as a result of a huge team effort carrying the ball the length of the pitch and finished off in the left corner by Leah Kearney.

Still full of hope, the girls fought hard in the second half, scoring a second try, which was finished by Eleanor Furlong, following an amazing run by captain Zara DiTofano.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be Greystones’ day as West Offaly dug deep and ran in three more unanswered tries.

The game finished 22-10 in West Offaly’s favour.

Understandably the Greystones girls were disappointed, however the battle has made them stronger and they are already looking forward to next season’s battles, whoever they may be against.

The girls played great rugby all year and showed phenomenal resilience, representing themselves and their club proudly.
