GREYSTONES ENNISCORTHY 38 33

THE Greystones RFC under-14 girls team are still glowing after their hard-won victory against Enniscorthy on Saturday last.

Greystones went out hungry, but Enniscorthy hit the ground running with two strong tries in the first 10 minutes.

This was the adrenaline shot Greystones needed and Lily Hogan weaved her way through the Enniscorthy defence to score the first try for Greystones and ignite the team’s fighting spirit.

A second soon followed from Milly Swan and another when Amy O’Mahony took on the Enniscorthy defence and offloaded skillfully before being tackled to the ground.

A series of accurate passes delivered the ball to Jessica Papikyan who went over for a third try for Greystones.

A conversion from Charlotte Nagle left the score at 17-12 to Greystones at half-time.

Enniscorthy started the second half with a well worked try and the following conversion left them in the lead once again.

Greystones captain Amy O’Mahony led the response with a break off the back of the scrum, fending off Enniscorthy’s defenders and scoring a try to the far left of the posts, leaving a tricky conversion for Charlotte Nagle who sent it over with immaculate precision. Enniscorthy stormed through with another two tries to lead again by three points and destroy the already frayed nerves of the Greystones parents on the sidelines.

But Greystones stayed positive and determined with 10 minutes to go. Milly Swan put Greystones just ahead with another try, but Enniscorthy weren’t happy with that and put another five points up.

The tension was extreme at this stage, but Lily Hogan took centre stage again with a great try and Charlotte Nagle put the nail in the coffin of Enniscorthy’s hopes with another conversion at two minutes to go.

The referee’s whistle blew fulltime to the relief of the Greystones supporters and the celebrations were rapturous.

Final score: Greystones 38, Enniscorthy 33.
