ARKLOW TOWN AVONMORE FC 1 6

IMPRESSIVE Avonmore under-16s strolled past Arklow Town as they beat their league rivals in an impressive 6-1 victory away from home.

Avonmore were in great form going into the game sitting in second position in the league table, but if they wished to challenge for the title they would have to find a way past Arklow Town who were hosts at Bridgewater Centre Park at 11am on Sunday morning.

The away side wasted absolutely no time in attacking their opponents and took the game to Town in the opening few minutes when Cody Reid almost opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Reid made a great run into the Arklow penalty area beating two defenders but his follow up sot was to tame for Arklow keeper Dean Hearte as he easily caught the ball in the air before it caused any danger.

Moments later, Avonmore had their opener, a well delivered corner from Cormac McGraynor met the head of Alex Olohan who nodded the ball past Hearte and into the net in the sixth minute.

Arklow grew into the game after conceding the first goal and were very dangerous on the counter attack as their strikers Pable Creos and Dan Fox had the pace to outrun the Avonmore defence.

Pablo showed his pace just before half time as his side broke on the counter attack and the striker almost got in one on one with Avonmore keeper Conor Nolan but was clipped on the ankle by an Avonmore defender before getting a shot off on goal which resulted in referee Paul Canavan awarding a freekick on the edge of the area.

Pablo stepped up to take the free kick and curled the ball up and over the wall and back down into the top left corner of the net, an excellent strike from the Arklow man just before half time.

Unfortunately for the town it was a second half to forget as Avonmore stepped their game up and scored five goals to put the game to bed. The first goal of the second half and the third goal of the game came on the 43rd minute with a wonderful well delivered cross from Kelan Busher and picked out Cormac McGraynor who finished the move off with an excellent first time finish.

Luke Kearney got in on the scoring act on the 50th minute with a bullent header from close range after rising above everyone else to head the ball into the net and past Hearte to bring the game to a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Avonmore’s fourth goal came from an excellent assist from Ryan Doyle who was making a great run down the right wing before cutting inside and curling the ball across the pitch to find Cody Reid who slipped the ball into the net on the 58th minute, great vision by Doyle to get his head up and pick out Reid from long range.

Avonmore had the chance to grab another goal from the penalty spot on the 64th minute when referee Paul Canavan pointed to the spot after Kelan Busher was tripped in the area which resulted in a penalty kick, but Busher could not find the back of the net as Hearte stood his ground and tipped the ball over the bar.

The goals did not stop for the away side as they nabbed another before the final whistle wit goals again from Mc Graynor and Cian Ward who had been terrific throughout the game. A dominant score line and a dominant performance from Avonmore who go away with all three points from the game.
