McHughblasts binmen

April 1985

-

Bray’s binemen were this week accused of not doing their job properly.

The attack came from Councillor Patricia McHugh at Tuesday’s meeting of Bray Urban Council where she claimed that the town’s refuse collection had completely broken down after the recent Easter Holiday weekend.

She aid the binmen were not doing their work properly and the town was an utter disgrace and ‘falling apart with litter’.

She said that something would have to be done by the council, that the ‘softly softly’ approach could no longer be taken to the binment and that it would have to be said to them.

But when other councillors came ot the defence of the binmen, Cllr McHugh retracted somewhat and said that she did not wish to give the impression that she was only blaming them for Bray’s litter problems.

She blamed local traders and indeed the councillors themselves for Bray’s poor appearance.

Cllr John McManus said it was not fair to blame the binmen for the bank holiday problem. It was an organisational problem which arises every time there is a bank holiday in Bray. He said the council should address itself to the issue by providing for this.
