NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC
All our teams bar the under-14s saw action last weekend as the weather continues to cause havoc with fixtures. The under-eights travelled to Ashford and played some impressive football. Among the players who starred were Bobby Spillane, Colin Healy, Nathan Donohoe and David McCormack.
Our under-9s had a brilliant game away to Rathnew where Oisin Duffy, Leon O’Connor, Nathan McMahon and Alex Ryan were among the players who starred.
The under-10s had a great game at home to Greystones Red where they edged in front on half time thanks to a goal from Mikey Synnott, whose shot took a big deflection. Early in the second half Nikita Neaga made it 2-0 through his perseverance in chasing a seemingly lost cause. We added two further goals near the end through Synnott and a deflected Aidan Heffernan effort. On the day Aaron Roy and Ryan Collins were among the players to star. The players and coaches of the 10’s would like to send their best wishes to Max Roche, who will be out of action for a spell due to injury.
The under-11s were out in action away to Avonmore and with a depleted team they lost narrowly on a 5-3 scoreline. PJ Duffy scored a cracking goal while the goals from Naoise Lowe and Hannah Martin weren’t too shabby either. On the day Dylan Dunleavy and Nikita Neaga played well.
That old saying ‘you wait all day for a bus and then two come along together’ and that certainly applies to the under-12s who followed up their recent win with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Greystones C Aaron Cawley scored the goal midway through the second half with a fine individual goal. Newtown did have their chances to increase their lead but the Greystones keeper pulled off some fine saves. It would be unfair to single out one single player as all the players played to a very high standard. It is only a small step but fair play to the group as they all have been working very hard at training.
The following are the fixtures for Thursday, April 19, to Sunday, April 22: under-14s vs Greystones ko to be confirmed (Cup); under-eights at home to Arklow United ko to be confirmed; under-nines at home to Greystones B ko to be confirmed; under-10s at home to Coolboy Rangers ko to be confirmed; under-11s Fixture to be confirmed; under-12s Fixture to be confirmed; under-14s Fixture to be confirmed (fixtures and ko times are subject to change)

GAA CLUB NOTES
Newtown GAA Club would like to announce a new sponsor for the coming season. ABSOLUTE 47 DOT COM Clancy Group Company has kindly agreed to sponsor the club for the 2018 season.
The company is owned by local business man Liam Clancy from Springfield Heights. Liam moved to America some years ago and is involved in a number of successful businesses. Liam and is family have been involved in Newtown GAA for a number of years and the club is delighted to have Liam and is company as our main sponsor. With so many teams to look after without this sponsorship it would be very difficult to cater for all our teams. Let’s hope the club can be as successful in the coming season as Liam has in his line of business.
Newtown had a good senior away win against a strong Valleymount team on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-13 last week. It’s great to get back on track after last week’s loss.
Well done to our under-14 girls who had two great victories last Saturday over St Pat’s and Carnew to reach the div two Féile final. The girls played some great football over the two games, winning both matches by a point to reach the final. Ballinakill was closed on the Sunday for the final so our opponents Baltinglass agreed to travel to Newtown to play us. It wasn’t a great day for football but despite that it turned out to be a cracker of a game, scores were at a premium with only three scores each. Unfortunately when the final whistle blew we were on the wrong end of a 1-2 to 2-1 score line. Great credit must go to the players and management for the effort they put in and it augurs well for the season ahead. Panel on the day was, Laragh Davis, Chantelle McMahon, Katelyn O’Toole, Emma Walsh, Doireann Smyth, Rebecca Gillan, Katie Smith, Aleesha McMahon, Grace Murphy, Alicia Farrell, Alyssia Larkin, Una Power, Nicole King, Anatasja Razniak, Rachael Duffy, Tia McDonald, Hannah Martin, Sophie O’ Reilly. Training is every Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m.
Newtown GAA extend deepest sympathies to the family of Mary Synnott of Monaline, who died recently.
This week’s jackpot was an even 6k as it rolled over on numbers 4, 7, 22 and 27. Lucky numbers for seven people who matched three and took home €30.
