Cyclists invited to sign up for SOS charity event

-

THE fourth annual SOS Shankill 120 charity cycle takes place next month, with the route taking participants into the heart of Co Wicklow.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 26, and, with the choice of two routes, is suitable for seasoned cyclists as well as those who prefer a more leisurely spin.

Suicide or Survive (SOS) is based in Shankill and so cyclists will gather at Brady’s pub in Shankill at 9 a.m. for the start of the cycle. Those taking part in the 120km event will head for the Arklow Sports and Leisure Centre before turning back again, while those taking on the 60km route will point their bikes towards the Grove Bar in Kilpeddar before returning to Shankill.

Funds raised through the event will allow the national mental health charity to continue to deliver its innovative and life changing programmes throughout the country and challenge the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health.

On the day of the cycle, participants will be welcomed at Brady’s with a complimentary breakfast at registration and in the evening for a barbecue, DJ and plenty of fun.

Cyclists will receive an SOS branded cycling jersey and complimentary refreshments and snacks at the halfway stop-off.

‘We are really excited about this year’s event and really grateful to all who are taking part and supporting us,’ said Suicide or Survive founder Caroline McGuigan.

‘ The cycle also helps effect real change in our communities. We are asking people to sign-up and get involved and to contact us if they want more information.’

Suicide or Survive works within communities to prevent suicide by creating and delivering innovative approaches that educate, inform and inspire people to cultivate good mental health and reduce stigma leading to less death by suicide.
