Charlie O’Leary Cup

Newtown United eventually booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Charlie O’Leary Cup after twice coming from behind to see off the stubborn attentions of Glencormac United 5-3.

The Pat O’Toole Division 1B leaders held a 2-1 advantage on the hour mark but three goals in less than ten minutes turned the tie firmly in Newtown’s favour.

James Delahunty fired Glencormac in front midway through the first-half, but the Andy McEvoy Premier 1 outfit were soon back on level terms, with Neil Martin bagging the equaliser.

However, the Glens regained the lead after the interval when Stephen Kirwan confidently dispatched a penalty.

Two quick-fire goals from Evan Moran edged the Magpies in front and then Dillon Carthy hit the back of the net to give them a 4-2 advantage.

It was game, set and match when Ryan Cahill plundered their fifth, although, to their credit, Glencormac kept plugging away and got their reward when Sam Kerr grabbed a consolation goal in injury time.

Charlie Byrne Cup

Paddy Adair was the match winner for Carnew AFC as they booked their place in the semi-finals of the Charlie Byrne Cup at the expense of Ballywaltrim.

Adair bagged both goals for the winners, with Thomas Cowan replying from the penalty spot.

Pat O’Toole Division 1B

Arklow United moved to within two points of Pat O’Toole Division 1B leaders Glencormac United with a convincing win over thirdplaced Bohs Supporters Club on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Kevin Bell and Anthony Fermoyle got the goals for Greystones United as they drew 2-2 with Frankfort FC.

Division 3

Leaders Arklow United added another three points to their tally with an impressive derby win over Arklow Celtic.

Conary United kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 7-3 triumph over Avonmore, with Jimmy Davis, Stephen Roche, Dale Moran, Eoin Murtagh (two), Davie Doran and Eamon Kennedy getting their goals and John Kavanagh (two) and Andrew Browne replying.

Elsewhere, Wicklow Town AFC overcame Aughrim Rangers 3-0, thanks to a David O’Connor double and a Paddy Murphy goal, while Dearg Celtic were handed a walkover.

Youth Cup quarter-finals

Avonmore are still very much on course for the treble after they came through their Youth Cup quarter-final tie against Aughrim Rangers with ease.

The league champions ran out 5-0 winners, with Dean Carter helping himself to a hat-trick and Mark Cullen and Jack Manley adding a goal apiece.
