Ardmore should not have been sold
April 1985
COUNTY Wicklow’s two government ministers have been challenged to find a long term and lasting solution to the continued problems at Ardmore Studios in Bray.
Greystones Town Commissioner Jack Murnane, formerly a member of the Labour Party and now an independent, said in a statement this week that the whole question had been left drift too long. He said the proposed sale should never have been undertaken and serious consideration should have been given to the establishment of a properly funded, Irish owned National Film Studio.
Such a proposal is the official Labour Party policy in the Wicklow Constituency. He says the amount which has been spent since the closure could have been used to fund a proper State rescue package, which would ensure jobs, both directly and indirectly, in Bray, a town which suffers from massive unemployment.
He asks the present Government to consider the proposals which are outlined in the policy document which was prepared for the Labour Party in Wicklow.
