ANTI-LITTER ACTION CAMPAIGN TO START
THE Wicklow branch of BirdWatch Ireland is organising an anti-litter action campaign in the month of May.
It will involve a talk by an expert on the damaging effects of throwaway plastics on birds and the environment and a morning of plastic litter picking in Broadlough.
At 8 p.m. on May 15, there will be a marine litter talk in the Glenview Hotel with a speaker from UCD, who will discuss birds and the impact microplastics can have on them. There will also be a talk on clean coasts, marine litter and what people can do to help.
On May 19, there will be a clean-up at Broadlough, the Murrough starting from 10 a.m. Equipment for picking and collecting rubbish will be provided by Wicklow County Council. Participants are asked to meet at the southern end of the lough by the Veolia water treatment plant on the Murrough Industrial Estate road. It is also hoped that participants will be able to enjoy some bird watching along the way.
