The Alpha/In-Between Book Club: Lily Byrne hosted the April Book Club which met last night (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. The book that members were reading for discussion at this meeting were ‘Joy of Joys’ by Gary Cunningham.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

St Anne’s Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the First Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

Confirmati­on 2018: The Confirmati­on ceremony for Scoil Mhuire and Rathmichae­l will take place this Saturday at 11 a.m.

‘The Family Cube’ – Art of Loving in the Family: These are available in St Anne’s Resource Centre for €10 each. Suitable for children preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmati­on.

Earth Day – This Sunday: To mark Earth Day last Sunday the blessing of a wildflower bed took place outside St Anne’s Resource Centre after the 10.30 a.m. Children’s Mass to mark St Anne’s parish response as a member of Eco Congregati­ons, Ireland to the Pope’s call to Care for the Earth, our Common Home.

UAC Monthly Meeting: The monthly meeting of the Union of Catholic Apostolate will take place this coming Monday night at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Cost includes tea and scone at stopoff on the way to Knock. The bus will leave St Anne’s car park at 7.30 a.m.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. BOOK SALE

The May First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material especially for the May Bank Holiday weekend. Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – closed this Friday and open this Saturday. The parents and Toddler Group meets on Monday mornings (except bank holiday Mondays and the second Monday of the month), from 10.30 a.m. to 11.20 a.m.

On Wednesday, May 9, 16th, 23rd and 30th, there will be a free Creative writing course with Frances Browner from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. during which Frances will show course participan­ts how to gather ideas and bring them to life and much more and will receive feedback from highly experience­d tutor who has had her work published and broadcast on radio. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Indoor monthly lectures of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack and surroundin­g area, have now concluded and will resume in Rathmichae­l National School in October when the autumn programme will commence. Before then in August the Society’s week long summer School of Evening Lectures on Archaeolog­y will take place in this venue and details will be announced in due course.

In the meantime some other events which may of interest to members of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society are tonight’s (Wednesday) 6 p.m. lecture by Dr Michael Pegum on ‘Baggot Street Hospital 60 Years Ago’ to the Old Dublin Society in the Conference Room of Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin two – all welcome, admission free; the Tuesday, May 1, 8 p.m. lecture by Fr Brian Darcy on ‘The Irish Showband Phenomenon’ to the Kilmacanog­ue History Society in the Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs, Delgany, Co. Wicklow. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile Academy is back in action this Saturday at 10 a.m. in our new home on Stonebridg­e Road. Why not give the Academy a try as the coaches are ready and the equipment is waiting and ready to be used, the cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on.

The weather played havoc with the fixture list last Saturday and Sunday week with not many games going ahead.

Well done to our club quiz team which represente­d Dublin in the Scór national final in Sligo. Our team comprised of Áine Ni Bhrian, Lisa Lawren Mulvaney, Kim Downes, and Jen Mahon, who finished in the top 10 from an entry of over 30 teams. They also met with John Horan, president of the GAA, who we hope will visit Shankill in the near future. Now that the bright evenings are back could all players please check with your team manager for details of training?

Our golf classic will take place in Delgany Golf Club on Friday, June 29. The cost is €300 per team of four people which includes a meal in Brady’s Pub and plenty of craic during the evening. The time sheet is now open so contact Jimmy Nolan at 087 2633203.

Our summer camp this year will be held from Monday, July 2, to Friday, July 6, in a new venue St Laurence College. Its going to be an even better summer camp than last year when we were completely booked out so register your interest with club asap.

Gaelic4Gir­ls – a free six-week programme for new comers to our club aged between 11 and 14 years in currently taking place. It is being held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings starting tomorrow (April 26) and runs to May31st. Dublin Ladies Senior all-Ireland medal winner Molly Lamb will direct the sessions. Last Saturday the annual Clean Up Day took place on what was a glorious sunny day. People were asked to clean up their own areas during the morning and then join in and assist with communal areas and projects during the afternoon. At 2 p.m. a workstatio­n was establishe­d at the top of Quinn’s Road and outside the Garda Station and volunteers could be seen busy at work throughout the afternoon at various locations. Well done, everyone.

STEAMING THROUGH

This Sunday morning steam locomotive hauled train operated by the Railway Preservati­on Society will pass through Shankill on its way to Bray between 11 a.m. and 11.20 a.m. from where it will operated two Bray to Wicklow and return steam train trips before returning to Dublin from Bray at 4 p.m.

Tickets for the Bray-WicklowBra­y trains are €14 Adults; Child €8 and can be booked online via steamtrain­sireland.com above or obtained over the counter at the Tourism Centre located in the Civic Offices, Main Street, Bray.
