Carnew girls rule the roost
COLÁISTE BHRÍDE AVONDALE CC 5-3 0-1
THE County Wicklow Post Primary Schools Junior ‘A’ camogie final was played in driving rain in Ballinakill on Tuesday between the holders Coláiste Bhríde Carnew and ‘B’ champions Avondale CC.
The first half was very even and scores were hard to come by at both ends due to hard working defences.
Sarah Doyle did score a Coláiste Bhríde goal while Emma Byrne pointed a free for Avondale just before the half-time whistle to leave the score 1-0 to 0-1 in favour of the Carnew school at the break.
The first ten minutes of the second half were again closely contested but goals by Abbie Walsh and Sarah Doyle for Coláiste Bhríde then gave them the initiative and they were on top for the final quarter as they adapted well to the conditions.
There was a good level of skill from both teams reflecting the good work being done by the camogie clubs. Referee was Cathy Forde.
After the game Jim Murphy presented the trophy to Coláiste Bhríde captain Aine Tobin.
