LARAGH

We travelled away to play Ashford last week we were missing a few regulars but still managed to tog out 20 players.

From the start it was always going to be a tough battle. We got the first score from a John Nolan free. Ashford hit back straight away with two points we then started to win a lot of ball around the middle and hit them for five unanswered points, two from John Nolan and one each from Mark Miley, David Miley and Myles Conway. But Ashford weren’t lying down and hit 3 points in a row which included two frees.

Myles Conway and Damien Hanlon extended our lead, we added six more points before half-time, three from John Nolan (two frees), Eric Olohan, Myles conway and David Miley.

Ashford did hit two in between the six. The half-time score was Laragh 0-14 to 0-07 Ashford.

We knew at half time that Ashford would change their game for the second half and they started well, getting the first score but we hit back straight away and were unlucky not to score a goal after a great run from Damien Hanlon, who put the ball just over the crossbar.

They then hit us for 1-03 with their goal coming from a penalty. John Nolan did put over a free just before their penalty.

That goal brought them to within two points with six minutes left. Both teams were trying hard to gather the ball when we eventually got it John Nolan kicked over two points (one free) to put us four up with two minutes left.

Just on the final whistle Craig McCoy made a great run forward and put the ball over the black spot to kill the game off. Final score 0-19 to 1-11.

This was a super team performance with some excellant scores being kicked.

Team: Peter Merrigan, Ross Doonan, Brendan Ward, James Cullen, Craig McCoy, Andrew Kenny, Ian Merrigan, Damien Hanlon, Keane Murphy, Dan Power, John Nolan, David Miley, Myles Conway, Mark Miley, Eric Olohan. Subs: Alan Smyth, Liam McEvoy, Stephen Curley, Kyle Merrigan, Wayne Kinlan.

Scorers: John Nolan (0-09), Myles Conway (0-03), David Miley (0-02), Damien Hanlon (0-02), Mark Miley (0-01), Eric Olohan (0-01), Craig McCoy (0-01).

Once again the support was great this is always appreciated by the club but especially all the players.

Juvenile training continues every Wednesday in the field at 6:15.

League round-up: Last Friday evening saw Aughrim arrive to the Community Field in big numbers for our league match.

It was great to see a vast amount of our own supporters there also to cheer on the team. The lads got off to a promising start, scoring numerous points and dominated for a period of time before Aughrim came racing back and scored two goals.

Pulling together, the team fought back and kicked over some fine scores to take the halftime lead of 13 points to 2-4.

Determined to keep the momentum they finished the first half with along with an impressive team display and great individual performances, we converted eight more points to bag the win and two valuable league points on a score-line of 20 points to 2-8.

We take on Kilcoole this Friday, 4th May at 7.15pm in the Field in the Division 3A Cup.

Once again, all home support is appreciated!
