Wicklow RFC minis enjoy final festival of season

-

WICKLOW RFC’s Under-10s and 12 s boys and girls finished off a great season by taking part in Seapoint RFC’s Minis Rugby Festival on Sunday.

The south Dublin club hosted minis teams from all over Ireland for a very well organised event. Cool but bright conditions and excellent pitches made for a great morning’s rugby with hundreds of children taking part.

The U-10 girls fielded a strong squad for their last games of the season.

The girls put on a great display of running rugby, moving the ball at every opportunity to score some fine tries.

The games against Greystones and Mullingar were all played in great spirts with great encouragement from the coaches and referees.

The U-12 girls took on Mullingar, Navan, and Greystones in fantastic conditions. The girls’ running games were all on display, with excellent individual tries as well as lovely team-worked scores that showcased all of the girls’ and coaches’ work over the season.

The girls wrapped up a fantastic season and look forward to playing some fun touch rugby over the summer, which is a great way to get into rugby or keep up skills over the break.

The U-10 boys came up against some quality teams from across Leinster including Lansdowne, Bective, DLSP, Ratoath, St Brigid’s and Galway Bay each of which brought different styles of play.

The boys did themselves proud with some excellent running, support play, tenacious tackling and heroic defense. They left nothing on the pitch and can be very proud of how they worked together as a team.

A strong team of U-12s boys enjoyed some excellent rugby during the morning with matches against Suttonians, Clanwilliam, Wanderers and Portlaoise.

The Wicklow lads saw some fantastic action and showed true grit and determination throughout their four physical encounters. Their sporting spirit and excellent teamwork shone on the pitch as they played their last games in minis rugby.

The minis season comes to a close back home in Ashtown Lane on Sunday, May 6 at 11am with team games followed by some light refreshments.
