Andy McEvoy Premier 1

Newtown United picked up six points in the past week to close the gap on Andy McEvoy Premier 1 leaders Ashford Rovers.

Last Wednesday the Magpies travelled to the Vartry Grounds and saw off Roundwood 3-0 with second-half goals from Dillon Carthy (penalty), Neilly Martin and Dean Odlum.

They closed to within two points of the leaders on Sunday when they were handed a walkover from FC Lokomotiv.

Carnew AFC came out on the right side of a seven-goal thriller against Arklow Celtic, with Dan Nolan, Cillian Gilligan, JJ McCrea and Seán Kinsella scoring for the winners and Shane Walker (two) and David Kavanagh replying for Celtic.

St Peter’s travelled to Roundwood on Sunday and came away with a 4-1 victory. Jake Kane fired the visitors in front and they added two more before the break through Darren McAteer and a Tony Harris penalty. Harris converted his second spot-kick to make it 4-0 after the interval and although Roundwood grabbed a consolation late on it did little to dampen the spirits of the St Peter’s crew.

Pat O’Toole Division 1B

Glencormac United took another step towards the Pat O’Toole Division 1B title with a 6-1 win over Templeogue United on Sunday.

Two goals from Nathan Watters had the Glens 2-0 up at the break and Cian McGoldrick extended their advantage shortly after the restart.

The Dubliners managed to pull a goal back, but it was soon business as usual with Watters scoring two more and James Delahunty completing the rout.

An even contest between Ashford Rovers and Knockmitten United was settled by a Sean Bailer Beale shot flying into the top corner from wide out late on. Credit to both keepers on the day with James Boullier keeping a first clean sheet of the season.

Elsewhere, Arklow United earned a 3-0 win away to St Patrick’s AFC (see focus match).

Division 3

Wicklow Town picked up four points in Division 3 during the week, playing a scoreless stalemate against Shamrock Celtic and overcoming Carnew AFC 4-0 thanks to a Keith Melia hat-trick and a JJ Power strike.

Dearg Celtic and Shamrock Celtic shared the spoils after a 3-3 draw in Redcross, with Philip Murphy (two) and Wesley O’Toole scoring for the hosts and Scott Meaney, Craig Doyle Philip Gill replying for Shamrock Celtic.

Mikey Doyle netted a hat-trick for Arklow Celtic, with Jay Rowlands and Anthony Sheehan both bagging doubles as they saw off Avonmore FC 7-3, with Andrew Browne, Jacob Hamilton and Ryan Bolton replying for the hosts.

Lee Hempenstall helped himself to a treble in Ballywaltrim’s 6-3 win over Aughrim Rangers, with Barry Golden, Paul Melia and Justin Melia chipping in with a goal apiece.

John Tobin Youth League

Champions Avonmore FC hit Wicklow Rovers B for six without reply in the John Tobin Youths League.

Mark Cullen grabbed a hat-trick, while Oisin McGraynor, Ross Ward and Callum Busher also hitting the back of the net.

Wicklow Rovers A ran out 6-2 winners over Arklow Town last Wednesday evening, with Gary O’Connor and Evan Doyle both netting doubles for the winners and Cian O’Brien and Harrison Okungbowa adding to their tally.
