Crew dash to safety as bus goes on fire
May 1985
Two CIE crewmen had to run for safety when their double decker bus was swept by fire in Bray early on Thursday morning.
Flames swept through the vehicle after fire broke out in the engine and within minutes the entire bus was ablaze, around 7.15 a.m. on Vevay Road.
A unit of Bray Fire Brigade was called to the scene but it took an hour before the firemen had brought the flames under control according to local gardai.
Fortunately the bus was only preparing for the first run into Dublin of the day and no passengers were on board at the time.
The two crew did not suffer any injury. Vevay Road was blocked for an hour by the blaze. This caused problems for motorists, particularly early morning commuters travelling into Dublin.
