ST ANNE’S PARISH

St Anne’s Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Rosary for Life and Protection of the ‘8th’: Will be said every day at 1.45 p.m. in the church during the month of May.

Holy Hour and Protection of the ‘8th’: Takes place every Tuesday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. after the 10 a.m. Mass in the church or in the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel. ‘What’s so great about the ‘8th’: A ‘Save Lives, Save the eighth’ Pro-Life talk with Guest Speakers Niamh Uí Bhriain (Life Institute), Katie Ascough (Pro-Life Campaign), and John Waters (Writer/Columnist), takes place tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Church. Consecrati­on to Our Lady: The consecrati­on of the Fourth Class students to Our Lady took place during the 10 a.m. Mass yesterday (Tuesday).

First Holy Communion: This Sunday the children from Rathmichae­l School will receive their First Holy Communion at the 10.30 a.m. Family Mass. We ask God to bless them.

First Friday: This Friday is the First Friday of May and the Bless- ed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Priests will be available on this day to visit the housebound and sick in the parish. Please contact the parish office if someone you know would like a priest to visit them.

Pallottine Pilgrimage to Knock: Takes place on Saturday, May 19, Cost – Adults: €20; Children: €10. Please make full payment at time of booking in the parish office in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Cost includes tea and scone at a stopoff on the way to Knock. The bus will leave St Anne’s car park at 7.30 a.m.

Pallottine Pilgrimage to Lourdes – August 7: Spiritual Director Fr Liam McClarey, SAC. €739 per person sharing for five nights full board. Cake sale for Uganda Projects: Last Sunday morning a cake sale took place in St Anne’s Resource Centre after all the morning Masses organised by a group of UCD volunteers fundraisin­g for a developmen­tal project in Nansana Health Centre, Uganda, this summer. The students wish to thank all those who supported this vital fundraisin­g event.

Crosscare: Wishes to thank parishione­rs for their most generous contributi­on to the recent annual collection for Crosscare Youth Services. The amount raised was €1,300.

Society of St Vincent de Paul: The members of the Parish Conference of the society of St Vincent de Paul wish to thank all those who contribute­d to their April collection which amounted to €2,270.

Angela’s Farwell coffee morning in aid of ‘My Canine Companion Autism Service’: Takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Thursday, May 10, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

CaFE – Catholic Faith Exploratio­n – Bringing Faith Alive: ‘Let it done onto me according to your word’ five session DVD course commenced last night (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource with ‘Chosen by God’, Continues next week (Week 2) – ‘The First Disciple’, week three – ‘Mother of all’, week four – ‘Queen of Heaven’, and week five – ‘Help of Christmas’. Course Booking Fee €5. Parish Choirs: New members always welcome for the following choirs – if interested please attend the rehearsals – Adult Choir: 8 p.m. on Mondays in St Anne’s Church; Junior Choir: Before 10.30 a.m. Sunday Mass in the church; Secret Choir: 8 p.m. on Wednesdays in the St Anne’s Church; Male Voice Choir: Thursdays at 11 a.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. BOOK SALE

This Saturday morning the May First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale during Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material especially for over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – open this Friday and closed this Saturday and next Monday due to the May Bank Holiday. The parents and Toddler Group meets on Monday mornings (except bank holiday Mondays and the second Monday of the month), from 10.30 a.m. to 11.20 a.m. On Wednesdays May 9, 16, 23, and 30, there will be a free Creative writing course with Frances Browner from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. during which Frances will show course participan­ts how to gather ideas and bring them to life and much more and will receive feedback from highly experience­d tutor who has had her work published and broadcast on radio. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Indoor monthly lectures of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack and surroundin­g area, have now concluded and will resume in Rathmichae­l National School in October when the autumn programme will commence. Before then in August the Society’s week long summer School of Evening Lectures on Archaeolog­y will take place in this venue and details will be announced in due course.

In the meantime some events which may of interest to members of the Enniskerry History Society are tomorrow’s (Thursday) 8 p.m. lecture by Maurice Manning on ‘General Eoin O’Duffy from heroics to bathos’ to the Mount Merrion Historical Society in the community centre, North Avenue, Mount Merrion, Co. Dublin. All welcome – admission €4/Students €2; next Tuesday night’s 8 p.m. lecture by Dr Maurice Gleeson on ‘DNA and Irish Genealogy: Where to now’ to the Genealogic­al Society of Ireland in Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute, Cumberland Street, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. All welcome – €3 donation; and the Saturday, May 12, Local History Societies Day from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the dlr Lexicon, Haig Terrace, Moran Park, Dun Laoghaire, organised by Anna and Colin Scudds of the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society, which will showcase the work of local history societies in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area – admission free.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The juvenile Academy is back in action this Saturday at 10 a.m. in our new home on Stonebridg­e Road. Why not give the Academy a try as the coaches are ready and the equipment is waiting and ready to be used, the cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. The brilliant weather allowed our fixture list to go ahead last Saturday/Sunday week and there were some great games and far too many matches to mention individual­ly. Well done to our coaches and parents for getting all the teams out to their various venues. Now that the bright evenings are back could all players please check with your team manager for details of training.

Our golf classic is in Delgany Golf Club on Friday, June 29, The cost is €300 per team of four people which includes a meal in Brady’s Pub and plenty of craic during the evening. The time sheet is now open so contact Jimmy Nolan at 087 2633203.

Our summer camp this year will be held from Monday, July 2, to Friday, July 6, in a new venue St Laurence College. It’s going to be an even better summer camp than last year when we were completely booked out so register your interest with club ASAP Gaelic four girls is a free six-week programme for new comers to our club aged between 11 and 14 years and will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings till May 31 Dublin Ladies Senior all-Ireland medal winner Molly Lamb will direct the sessions. OVER-50S SOCIAL CLUB

The former SARA (Shankill Active Retirement Associatio­n) has evolved into the Shankill Social Club for which new members and ideas are wanted. Recent activities have included afternoon tea on the Vintage Tea Bus Tour of Dublin, Lunch in Kelly’s Hotel, Rosslare, guest speaker with gardening tips for Spring and Irish dancing exhibition for St Patrick’s Day.
