ST MARY’S CHURCH

Sacrament of Reconcilia­tion – St Mary’s: Confession­s are held after 10.15 a.m. Mass on Saturday morning. Exposition of Blessed Sacrament after 10.15 a.m. Prayer Service each Friday morning. The Rosary is recited each morning at 9.55 a.m. in the Prayer Room. The Rosary Group meet on first Monday of each month.

Kilmacanog­ue Parish Community: A meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 29, from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Parish Hall for parishione­rs of Kilmacanog­ue to discuss issues relating to the parish. Co-ordinators of the meeting will be John Welsby, Celia Flynn, and Fr Kennedy, PP All parishione­rs are invited to attend and if you cannot attend but would like to raise any issue please contact any of the above through the parish office.

Child Protection: Garda Vetting Forms must be filled out by all parish personnel and volunteers working with children and vulnerable adults. This is a legal requiremen­t. If you are a volunteer and have not received a form, please contact the parish office, who will forward same and will assist in photocopyi­ng your ID and required Utility Bill if you return form by hand.

Used Stamps: Barnardos Children’s Charity are looking for used stamps. The money raised through the sale of these stamps will go directly towards their work with vulnerable children here in Ireland. If you would like to leave your used stamps in an envelope in the basket at the back of the church we will forward them to Barnardos at regular intervals.

St Mary’s and St Gerard’s School car park: For security reasons the Enniskerry school car park must be closed after 11 a.m. Mass in St Mary’s. Can you ensure that if you are the last person leaving the car park after 11 a.m. Mass that you close the gate.

Bookstall: A bookstall has been placed in the rere of Enniskerry church to display suitable spiritual reading material. Please place money for books in shrines at back or front of church.

Holy Communion Dates for the parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary 2018: First Holy Communion: Enniskerry – Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m.; Kilmacanog­ue: Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m.; Curtlestow­n: Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m.

Baptism: Baptisms will be held on Sunday, May 13, in St Mary’s at midday. If you wish to book a baptism please phone parish office at least two weeks beforehand.

Legion of Mary – Kilmacanog­ue Presidium: Meet at 11.30 a.m. every Tuesday in the sacristy of St Mochonog’s. New members are most welcome. Group recite the Rosary on the first Saturday of each month at midday at the Grotto in the church grounds. Click on the link legionofma­ry.ie to view website.

HISTORY SOCIETY

Meetings of the Enniskerry History Society have now concluded and will resume in October when the autumn 2018 programme will take place, and planning on this is currently under way. Informatio­n on the Enniskerry History Society available from John Callan at 01 2867853.

Some events which may of interest to members of the Enniskerry History Society are tomorrow’s (Thursday) 8 p.m. lecture by Maurice Manning on ‘General Eoin O’Duffy from heroics to bathos’ to the Mount Merrion Historical Society in the community centre, North Avenue, Mount Merrion, Co. Dublin. All welcome – admission €4/ Students €2; next Tuesday night’s 8 p.m. lecture by Dr Maurice Gleeson on ‘DNA and Irish Genealogy: Where to now’ to the Genealogic­al Society of Ireland in Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute, Cumberland Street, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. All welcome – €3 donation; and the Saturday, May 12, Local History Societies Day from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the dlr Lexicon, Haig Terrace, Moran Park, Dun Laoghaire, organised by Anna and Colin Scudds of the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society, which will showcase the work of local history societies in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area – admission free.

ENNISKERRY LIBRARY

Opening hours for the libraryare – Tuesday and Friday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. New members to the library are always very welcome. WALKING ASSOCIATIO­N

The Enniskerry Walking Associatio­n was formed in 2004 to protect traditiona­l walking routes in the area and to promote walking for recreation, for health, as a safe alternativ­e to car use, and to help us all to learn more about our locality.

Our popular Tuesday evening walks usually meet at the Spar in Enniskerry at 7 p.m.; Saturday walks meet at 1.30 p.m. All, who are interested, adults or children, are most welcome. Walks vary in length but most last between one-and-a half and two-and-ahalf hours; some (but not all) involve a bit of climbing. Please wear appropriat­e warm and rain-proof clothing, and proper walking boots for the occasional muddy or rocky track.

Note: we have made some changes to the informatio­n on this list of walks. Please read all informatio­n to avoid disappoint­ment. In the interests of walker’s comfort and safety participan­ts are asked to respect the directions of the walk leader and stay between the leader and the anchor person.

Next Tuesday (May 8): Knockree Figure of Eight and Crone. See the Bluebells. Approximat­ely four miles in length and 2.5 to three-hour duration. Meet outside Spar at 7 p.m. or the forest car park past Knockree Hostel at 7.20 p.m.; Tuesday, May 15: Circuit of Cruagh 2.5 hours and moderate climb. Meet outside Spar at 7 p.m., or Tibradden car park at 7.20 p.m.; Tuesday, May 22,: Bray Head circuit lasting two hours, Meet Outside Spar at 7 p.m. or Raheen Park car park on Bray Head at 7.20 p.m.; Tuesday, May 29,: Carrigolli­gan, Mine chimney and summit lasting two hours – ‘ROUTE VARIATION’. Meet outside Spar at 7 p.m.; or Carrigolli­gan car park at 7.20 p.m.

NB – This is a community activity organised by volunteers who accept no liability for injuries or loss caused to participan­ts in any of the above walks.

EMBRACING 200 YEARS

As part of the Powerscour­t National Schools week celebratio­ns from May 14 to May 22 the Schoolhous­e for art will host a number of historical, cultural and artistic related talks including an art exhibition which will be open to the public. This will be a free event, but will require booking ahead.
