NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

We only had three teams in action last weekend mainly due to the boys and girls who made their First Holy Communion last Saturday. Thankfully the weather was reasonable and we hope everyone had a great day.

In on field action our under-10s had a ding-dong battle with Wicklow Rovers White in a game where our side edged the 13-goal thriller. Pat Carey with a hat trick and singles from Kacey Kelly, Mikey Synnott, Ryan Collins, David Mackey and William Valentine. Best on the day for the 10’s were Aaron Roy and Nikita Neaga.

The 11’s played out a 4-all draw with Arklow Utd Stripes in an action packed game. Jake Robertson (2), Cormac Chance and Cathal O’Toole scored the Newtown goals.

Hard luck to our under-14s who were edged out 5-4 on aggregate in their interim Cup Final last Thursday evening. With the first leg ending 3-3 it was Glencormac Utd, who started the game the brighter and they took the lead on 15 minutes. Newtown responded well and they created several chances the best been a cracking long range effort from Luke Breen that the goalkeeper finger tipped over the bar.

In the second half Newtown continued to enjoy the lions share of the possession but too often their final ball let them down. Just when it looked like time was running out Newtown got level when from a Bobby Dowling cross both Martin Kelly and Bogdan Rusu seemed to get a touch on the ball to score from close range. Soon after another long-range effort from Luke Breen again brought the best out of the Glencormac goalkeeper.

With the game heading into injury time and extra time looming Glencormac scored what turned out to be the winner. Despite a couple of late efforts from Newtown the away side held on to take the game. Congratulations to Glencormac Utd on their win and hard luck to our side. On the night among the players who starred were Luke Breen, Jason Carthy, Shane Synnott and Seán Bishop.
