GOLF SOCIETY

Jacobs Well Golf Society had their second outing for the year on Saturday last at Arklow Golf Club which was presented in excellent condition, thanks to all the staff who made us feel very welcome.

We enjoyed the beautiful sunny conditions, but the stiff breeze at times did present a challenge for all.

Prize winners on the day were: Category 1 and overall winner Caroline Browne; Category 2 Artie Byrne; Front 9 Mick Leonard; Back 9 Larry Roe; Par 3’s nearest the pin Caroline Browne; Artie Byrne, Mick Leonard and Anthony Doyle; Longest Drive Caroline Browne.

Prizes were presented by the chairman Artie Byrne and Captain James Byrne. A special thanks to Mick Leonard for his good work in organising the event and Alex Sheehan for compiling the results.

Our next outing is scheduled for Coollattin Golf Club on Saturday, June 2 – tee time 11.00. We hope to have another good days golf with a good attendance again.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Rosemary Raughter, Chair of the Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society, will give a talk to Rathdrum Historical Society on Tuesday, May 8, entitled ‘Home Rule is throwing many a shadow just now’.

This will offer an overview of women’s involvement in unionist activity in Wicklow from the 1880s on.

Rosemary’s research into Wicklow women’s political activity combines her interest in women’s and in local history.

The talk takes place in the RDA Annex at 8 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.

Please note the change of day and location for this talk.
