‘No way’ group could afford suggested fee for hut rental

-

An agreement is being prepared for the use of a fisherman’s hut by ‘Greystones Outdoors’.

Members said at last Tuesday evening’s meeting that a proposed rental fee of €250 per month is too high.

District Administrator Myra Porter said that the licence will allow use by the activities organisers between May and October.

She said that a draft agreement has been prepared.

Cllr Grainne McLoughlin said that this was for a social enterprise and there is no way they could afford that rent.

She said that they would mainly be using the hut for storage and that the council had never made any revenue from the huts.

Ms Porter said that it is up to the members and asked them to be mindful that whatever fee is decided, that will set a precedent.

Cllr Derek Mitchell said that at least there should be a massive discount for the first year.

Cllr Gerry Walsh said that they are ticking a lot of boxes in terms of attracting tourism to the area.

District manager Michael Nicholson said that they will review the wording of the agreement.
