Searching for Leinster glory

Knockananna team ready

-

THE talented soccer team from Scoil Naomh Bríd in Knockananna will compete in the FAI SPAR Primary School 5s Leinster finals this Thursday after coming through the Wicklow and South Leinster championships thanks to some fantastic performances.

Eight players make up the squad with each player contributing handsomely to the superb victories that have paved the way to the provincial finals which will takie place in Navan this Thursday from 11am.

The Knockananna team face opposition from three different counties on Thursday. Clonlisk from Offaly, Scoil Seosamh Naomtha from Meath and St Mary’s NS out of Donnybrook in Dublin stand in their way of securing a place in the national finals scheduled to be played at the Aviva Stadium.

“Huge congratulations to our school soccer team who won the South Leinster finals of the FAI SPAR Primary School 5s competition,” said Scoil Naomh Bríd Principal Ann Gartland. “We would like to wish the team the very best of luck and come what may out school community are very proud of you,” she added.

Scoil Naomh Bríd is a small but distinguished three-teacher school in west Wicklow with pupils attending from a variety of backgrounds and all benefiting hugely from the healthy and welcoming ethos being fostered in the popular school.

The well-equipped school forms the focus of the small community of Knockananna and its immediate surrounds.

Sport plays a massive role in the school. From athletics to swimming to gymnastics, the school caters for many interests and has a very strong commitment to GAA.

The soccer team of Eoin Canna, James Lancaster, Charlie Godson, Adam Kinsella, Mark Kinsella, Leonard Godson, Mark Tyrrell, and John Murphy have the support of the entire village of Knockananna and the sporting public of Wicklow as they go in search of provincial glory this Thursday, May 10.

Along the way they have been helped massively by Jim Barnes, Philip Hamilton and Stephen Godson.
