Soccer action

-

Thankfully the good weather con-

tinued last weekend and more soccer action took place. In the under-14 cup quarter final, the Glens have a slight first leg advantage when they defeated Ashford Rovers 1-0 in Ashford. This was a super display from everyone to bring a deserved lead back to Ryder’s for this Thursday evening second leg.

The team were really up for this game from start to finish against the inform team in the premier division and went in at half time 1-0 up when Kieren Griffiths swung in a dangerous corner and between Dean Bradshaw, Ashfords centre back and the goalie, the ball ended up in the net, and we think Harry Kane has a claim in for it also. The second half was fairly even but a few chances went a miss but good to have a lead in this one. Well done to all and to Kieren Griffiths and Ben

Campbell, who signed during the week and looked very comfortable settling into their new team.

The seniors had home advantage in their Thomas Scott Divisional semi-final and used that to their benefit with a 4-2 win. It started bad for the Glens when they found themselves 0-2 down within 15 minutes. However, Stephen Kirwin smashed a brilliant penalty to the net before a fantastic Sam Kerr volley made it 2-2 at the break. Man of the match Sam Callaghan then dispatched a freekick to the net before Nay Watters sealed the win.

The Glens received huge support on the day which they are very grateful and would welcome support again this Sunday (13th) afternoon for their Wicklow Cup semi-final against Carnew in Rathdrum.
