EGS CAMOGIE

On Thursday last EGS played in a Kildare and Wicklow inter-schools camogie blitz in the Kildare GAA centre of excellence in Newbridge. There were nine teams from seven schools competing, with the top four teams qualifying for the Leinster finals. EGS was one of the teams to qualify and so we will head to Port Laoise on May 16 to play in the finals. This is fantastic news and and an amazing achievement for girls who are new to the sport.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Our under-15 girls played a challenge match recently against Loreto Bray. The game was played over three thirds with 23 girls from first, second and third year all playing their part. The game was keenly contested throughout with Bray edging it in the end 4: three. For some of our girls, this was their first ever game on a proper full size grass pitch. All the girls should be very proud of their efforts, not just in this game, but throughout the year. Well done also to Dean Noble, who refereed the game very competently, having recently completed a referees course.

STAFF VS STUDENTS

The first of the staff vs student challenge matches took place on Thursday, May 3, at lunchtime and a healthy response to the call was answered by both groups concerned. Although we went to three sets it was a comfortable win in the end. Great performances were put in by both sides and the atmosphere was tense with every point won and lost. The staff are hopeful that the basketball match will be another very enjoyable and positive experience overall with another victory to add to the collection. The gauntlet is down.

TRANSITION YEAR NEWS

The TY’s are in their final couple of weeks and are busily preparing for their open eve on Thursday, May 17. The evening promises to be a fantastic event filled with stories from the year, anecdotes, embarrassing pictures, some practical demonstrations followed by a well deserved tea and coffee. Also on display will be the students completed thesis projects which, as always comprise of a huge variety of pieces.

Also coming up is our last hill walk up in Lough Dan. This is always a great day and hopefully the sun will shine as it has the last number of years.
