MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY

Local Club Swiff Kick Martial Arts Academy (SKMAA) are incredibly proud of the seven members of their competition team that competed at the Kickboxing Ireland National Championships in Citywest over the 28/29 of April. For most of them it was their first time competing at Nationals.

This competition was the qualification to travel to the WAKO World Championships in Italy in September where those that place in the Top Two earn their place on the Irish National Team. And they are ecstatic to announce that five of the members did just that. Everyone performed incredibly well competing at the highest standard at this level. They achieved an amazing four silver medals and had two new gold medal national champions.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC Due to the Bank Holiday last weekend only three of our teams saw action last weekend. Lightening struck twice for our under-11s as for the second successive week they had a 4-4 draw this time away to Wicklow Rovers White. Jake Robertson scored two more crackers, Dayle Carthy scored his first ever goal and Jack Daly scored at the end of the game for a deserved share of the spoils. Brooklyn Doyle was outstanding on the day alongside Cormac Chance and Dylan Dunleavy.

The under-12s enjoyed a good win away to Sporting Greystones to maintain their recent run of good form. Aaron Cawley helped himself to four goals, Paudie Gammell (2) and there was one each for Keira Farrelly and Eoghan Fox.

Our 14’s have been finding it hard going on the pitch recently and they suffered another heavy defeat away to Greystones in the cup. To be fair to some of the players they kept plugging away with Ryan Clarke excellent in the goal. The team will probably have to drop down a division, as they are clearly not strong enough for the league they are in.

Only one player from the club celebrates a birthday in the coming week and he is Hubert Wyborski from the Development Squad. Happy birthday Hubert from all at Newtown Juniors FC All our teams are back in training now for the past couple of weeks. There are also a couple of slots on all our teams at the moment so if there are any girl’s or boys who would like to join the club please contact our secretary Hughie at 087 6987653 and he will provide you with all the information you will need.

We have our popular ‘ Golden Goals’ going again and we currently have coupons out for the FA Cup Final (Chelsea and Manchester Utd) on Saturday, May 19, and the Champions League Final (Real Madrid and Liverpool) on Saturday, May 26. First place for East/West went to Maua Gaskin and Christine Campbell, second Margaret Byrne and Marian Davies, third Clare Sally and Pamela Byrne and fourth John Loscher and Pauric Gleeson. Prize giving for End of Season will take place on Monday the 14th may.

002 BRIDGE CLUB

Taking first place for North/ South on Friday, May 4, were Maria Magee and Judy Skates, second Ger Lenihan and Paddy O’Brien and June 3 Digby and Monica Brady while Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd took fourth place.

Victors for East/West were Nancy O’Brien and Jim McNamara, joint second/third Kay Plunkett, Mary Murphy, Gertrie Fee and Jane Cronin and fourth Marian Davies and Mary Pierce. Prize giving for End of Season will take place this Friday morning 11th may.

BARN DANCE

Moneystown Midsummer barn dance and barbecue will take place on June 30 in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8 p.m. till late. Music by the Roamin Cadiliacs and the Whole Hog. Fully licensed.

MONEYSTOWN DANCE

The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday, May 11, in Moneystown Community Centre from 9.30 p.m. till late. Tea served, refreshments also available, door prizes. Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jive, linedancing, etc.

MEDJUGORJE

A pilgrimage to Medjugorje leaves on October 10 for seven nights. Cost €669 which includes Flights (Aer Lingus) Insurance, Half Board in house beside church. WALKING GROUP

Not only do the Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group walk for approximately an hour every Wednesday evening, they also have time suss out the progress of the Vartry Walks, have the chat and take a few photos of the fantastic scenery as they go. Some folk walk fast, others slower but the good thing is the group take slightly different routes according to your pace. So no one walks alone and generally all start and finish together. Do come along meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park every Wednesday. All welcome.

CEILI DANCING LESSONS

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.
