Magpies face Glens in Wicklow Cup final

-

THE final pairing for the Wicklow Cup was decided last weekend when Newtown United and Glencormac United emerged from their respective semi-finals.

It will be an historic occasion for the Glencormac men who have reached their first ever final in their 44-year history thanks to their hard-earned victory over Carnew AFC in Pat O’Toole Park on Sunday afternoon.

“This is for the great clubmen that kept Glencormac going over the years. The likes of Shay Kiernan, Aiden Golden, Karl Bradshaw and Trevor Carr. We have not won anything since the 2002 Carton Walsh cup and to be in with a chance of three trophies at the end of may is fantastic for such a small club,” said Glencormac’s Colm Mulligan after the game.

Newtown have returned for yet another bite at the cherry as they prepare for their third final in a row having come through a battle with St Peter’s in their semi-final played at the Vartry Grounds in Roundwood on Sunday morning thanks to an Evan Moran goal and a fine Lee Fitzpatrick penalty save.
