Pentecost Sunday – This Sunday: The Secret Choir, who will sing at the 6 p.m. evening Mass on Pentecost Sunday (this Sunday), is appealing again for new members. Rehearsals take place at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in the church.

Church Door Collection: The society of St Vincent de Paul monthly collection will take place after all Masses this Saturday and Sunday.

May Film Night: Takes place on Saturday, May 26, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre featuring ‘Till the Clouds Roll By’ – A musical of Jerome Kern’s life story, starring Judy Garland, Angela Lansbury, Diane Shore, Frank Sinatra++ more. Admission free.

Novena for Life and Protection of the ‘8th’: We invite parishione­rs to join us in prayer as we offer a novena to Our Lady, from May 16 to May 24. Novena prayer available on the tables in the church.

Holy Hour and Protection of the ‘ 8th’: Takes place every Tuesday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. after the 10 a.m. Mass in the church or in the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel. First Communion: Last Sunday morning the children of Ms Dawson’s class in St Anne’s National School received their First Holy Communion at the 10.30 a.m. Family Mass. This Sunday the children of Ms Byrne’s class in St Anne’s National School will receive their First Holy Communion at the 10.30 a.m. Family Mass.

Thank You: Niamh Doyle wishes to express her gratitude towards the parish community after her brilliant success with her recent cake sale to raise funds for her trip to Uganda with UCD Volunteers Overseas. The amount raised was €580.

BOOK SALE

The June First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre, Lower Road, Shankill between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Last Saturday morning the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack and surroundin­g area, was one of several local history societies active in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown municipal area which took part in a Local History Societies Day from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the dlr Lexicon – Level 3, Haig Terrace, Moran Park, Dun Laoghaire, organised by Anna and Colin Scudds of the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society, which will showcased the work of the local history societies taking part. The next event for members of the society is the Saturday, May 26, ‘Royal Canal Tour’ led by Peter Clarke, details of which have been circulated to members.

The Society’s 44th summer Series of Evening Lectures will take place in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at 8 p.m. nightly from Monday, August 13, to Friday, August 17.

In the meantime some events which may of interest to members of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society are tonight’s (Wednesday) night’s 8 p.m. lecture by Dr Séamus Cannon on ‘The Cheevers Family of Monkstown’ to the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society in the Royal Marine Hotel, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. All welcome – entrance €3; and tomorrow (Thursday) night’s 8 p.m. meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society devoted to ‘Printed in Bray: the history of the printing industry in Bray and County Wicklow’ with guest speakers, in the Royal Hotel, Main Street, Bray, Co. Wicklow. All welcome – admission €5; and Saturdays 2 p.m. lecture by Bill Fulton on ‘Generals Died in the Great War’ to the Western Front Associatio­n (Dublin Branch) in the Museum of Decorative Arts and History Lecture Theatre, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin seven. All welcome – €3 donation appreciate­d.

GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile Academy takes place on a Saturday at 10 a.m. in our new home on Stonebridg­e Road. Why not give the Academy a try as the coaches are ready and the equipment is waiting and ready to be used, the cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on.

We are back with our fundraiser ‘Chase the Ace’ draws on Sunday nights in Brady’s. Last week’s €50 prize went to Derek Kavanagh and this week’s jackpot is €800. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and are available from club members or in the pub.

Our under-eight, under-10 and under-11 hurling teams had games against Kevins, Good Consel and Naomh Fionnbarra while the girls’ under-10 played Gerladine P Morans and the under-12 team against St Mary’s Saggert. Well done to our coaches and parents for getting all the teams out to their various venues.

Our golf classic is in Delgany Golf Club on Friday, June 29. The cost is €300 per team of four people which includes a meal in Brady’s Pub and plenty of craic during the evening entertainm­ent. The time sheet is now open so contact Jimmy Nolan at 087 2633203.

Our summer camp this year will be held from Monday, July 2, to Friday, July 6, in a new venue of St Laurence College – the cost is €55 for members and €65 for non-members. It’s going to be an even better summer camp than last year when we were completely booked out so register your interest with club ASAP

The Gaelic four girls free sixweek programme for new comers to our club aged between 11 and 14 years continues on Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will finish on May 31 Dublin Ladies Senior all-Ireland medal winner Molly Lamb will direct the sessions.
